Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will soon be operating with guns. This is according to the House of Representatives Committee.

The house, during the corps’ 2020 budget performance and 2021 budget defence, on Thursday, November 5, 2020, stated that it has become needful for the operatives to bear firearms, which is believed to help them curtail excesses of road users across Nigeria.

Akinfolarin Mayowa, the Chairman of the committee, explained that the 1992 Act of FRSC allowed the corps to carry guns.

According to him, the implementation had become necessary to ensure laws were obeyed and to allow the FRSC function effectively.

He disclosed that the committee would meet with Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and also write to President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the Act.

Corroborating Mayowa’s stance, Solomon Maren, a committee member of the house, said the committee would discuss the matter with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, adding that there were more risks on the roads.
