- The Federal Government has vowed to shut down the Lagos-Ibadan and the Abuja-Kaduna train services if there’s any case of Covid-19 amongst its passengers.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi while appearing on NTA Good Morning Nigeria Programme.
He said all passengers must comply with the Covid-19 safety protocols from the beginning of the trip to the end.
Amaechi said, “if we see that we are conveying passengers who have Covid-19 from Lagos to Ibadan or from Ibadan to Lagos, we will stop the rail service just like we are threatened to stop the Abuja-Kaduna train due to non compliance to the safety protocols “.
The minister added that the $1.6bn Lagos-Ibadan railway project which would be completed this month would be inaugurated virtually by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation had in December 2020 commenced operations for the Lagos-Ibadan railway, a standard gauge rail covering a distance of 156km.
