Nigerian-born songwriter, music composer and band leader, Segun Akinlolu professional known as Beautiful Nubia has cautioned fans against telling artistes yo place their music on free streaming/downloading platform, FactualTimes reports.
Beautiful Nubia, the leader of the Roots Renaissance Band in a message shared on his Facebook page said the act is very disrespectful to the music and the artists who make it.
His words: ”Please stop asking us to place the music on platforms that do not pay anything to the artist. It is very disrespectful to the music and the artists who make it. Real, good music is made with sweat, with money, with love. It deserves some respect. And artists do deserve some return so that they can keep making the music that makes you happy.
The 53 year-old composer of contemporary songs said the business of making and selling music has become quite a joke these days.
”I write this for those of you who love music but can’t understand what’s going on. Most artists’ income from music sales nosedived once downloading became the norm, but streaming is even worse – it pays very little when it pays at all. And then there are some popular services that pay nothing for now.” He explained
”If you love our music, please buy it where we say it is available for downloading (iTunes-Apple Music is still the best for that and it also works on androids). There is Amazon Music for android users who are into that.
If you prefer to stream, you have services like Deezer, Spotify, YouTube Music, etc.”
