In what the people of Gerewu community in Ilorin West Local Government Area described as most responsible and responsive act, the Chairman, Kwara State Roads Maintenance Agency, Hon. Rufai Bolakale Oloje, on Monday led a team of the Agency, including the Head of Operations, Engr. Abdullateef Ibrahim, to pay an unscheduled visit to Gerewu community, where there was a call by the people of the area seeking government intervention on the deplorable condition of the road linking the suburb to the metropolis.
Recall that a video of this Community Development Authority excavating the existing culvert of Gerewu linking airport express Road went viral across all social media platforms during the weekend.
Addressing the KWARMA team, Mallam Shuaib Kofoworola and Abdulganiyu Amosa, who are the community rehabilitation committee chairman and secretary respectively; explicated the condition of the road at the instance of the community traditional head, Alhaji Ibrahim Laagbe, as they unanimously apologized for the viral video that surfaced online, which they said was not aimed at denting the image of the current administration but a means of getting attention of the concerned authorities, as several efforts that were made in the past on the subject matter had proved abortive.
They commended the KWARMA boss and his team for quick response, which they said it showed how humane and responsible this administration has remains.
“We, the people of Gerewu community cannot express how glad we are to receive the attention of the state government on this road. We profoundly thank our amiable Governor, whose leadership has come to restore hope and value-for-vote in Kwara.
“Over the years, this road had suffered much neglect, despite its commercial and residential purposes. Its worst condition becomes more obvious during raining season. To curb unforseen havoc which could be wrecked by rain as we approach the wet season is more reason we contributed from our slim pockets to do some needfuls on the road,” the committee said.
Responding, Hon. Kale Oloje commended the Community Development Association for their social service/efforts to complement the government in ensuring better life for the people. While assuring them of quick intervention by the state government through the agency.
The community leaders, however, prayed for the visiting team, and success of Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq in his quest to take Kwara to a greater height.
