Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher labelled Thiago Alcantara’s defending “a liability” as the Reds went down 3-1 to Leicester on Saturday.
With Liverpool leading 1-0 through a fine Mohamed Salah goal, they collapsed in the final 12 minutes of the match to surrender the lead and suffer a damaging defeat in their quest to finish in the top four.
Leicester’s equaliser came from a James Maddison free-kick after a weak Thiago challenge on Harvey Barnes, and Carragher says that the Spaniard’s tackling is a major issue as he continues to struggle at Liverpool, while he also took aim at goalkeeper Alisson for his form in the last two matches.
Carragher tweeted: “Liverpool outstanding up until 1-1. Thiago a liability defensively! The Keeper’s decision making gone awol last 2 games!!”
Jurgen Klopp refused to pin blame on individuals, and was instead angry at the manner of the Leicester equaliser after it survived a VAR check.
“We conceded a goal that was a really tough one to take. I know we discuss a lot about VAR but I think we all agree it was a turning point in the game,” he told BT Sport.
“I saw it now, a couple of times, the goal and the moment when they stop the situation where you look at who is offside he [Maddison] hadn’t even touched the ball yet.
“So that means it is still an individual decision of someone who decides if it is offside or not offside.
