The lagos state government led by His Excellency;Mr.Babajide sanwo-Olu has issued directive to the state ministry of education to include history as a stand alone subject in all secondary schools curricula within the state.
This was seen as a welcome development, by stakeholders and some citizens who still hold the believe that the inclusion of the subject would not only help the students to understand the mistakes and achievements of the nation’s past heroes, but will also play significant role in preparing them for the leadership knowledge require to lead in any capacity for the future.
Many have once frowned to the decision of the Federal government for scrapping the subject in 2007. Back then, it wasn’t seen as a core subject but instead buried amongst social studies lessons.Between 2007 and 2022 the subject had been largely absent from schools for the period of 15 years.
However; one question that is still boiling in the minds of the people is why now ? Some sees the move as a strategic decision toward next year election, while some still embrace it as a welcome development and timely one.
